4 charged after Bath nightclub investigation

Four men from Bath have been charged with drugs offences after an operation centred on cutting crime and drug dealing at one of the city's nightclubs, the Blue Rooms.

The police operation follows a covert two-month investigation at the Blue Rooms into alleged drug dealing, mobile phone and purse thefts, drink spiking, assault and criminal damage. In the past six months, to the end of December 2012, there were 33 offences reported at the Blue Rooms. Police say that, over that period, one third of all violent offences in Bath's nightclubs happened there. There have also been a number of serious public order incidents involving large intoxicated groups of men leaving the club, with several arrests and hospital admissions.

Det Insp Janice Pearson, heading the operation, said:

"Our aim was to destroy crime groups affecting people in Bath and north east Somerset and to arrest, prosecute and convict people supplying controlled drugs. Today's action sends out a strong message that police are working around the clock, in uniform and undercover, to bring offenders to justice and make Bath a safer place to live and work."

District Commander Chief Supt Geoff Spicer said:

"This is another good day for policing in Bath. We aimed to dismantle and destroy serious crime groups and this action will certainly make a difference."

Officers and BANES council officials will now take action against the licence holder of the Blue Rooms for alleged breaches of its licence, which could result in the club being closed.

The 4 men charged are:

Ben Shayegan, 20, of Quiet Street, was charged with two counts of supplying Class A drugs, one count of possessing drugs with intent to supply, and one count of criminal damage.

Calvin Scott, 24, of Newton Road, was charged with two counts of supplying Class A drugs and one count of being concerned in offering to supply.

Louie Mulholland, 19, of Linley Close, was charged with six counts of supplying Class A drugs.

Kalum Watts, 27, of Fosse Gardens, was charged with one count of supplying Class A drugs.
