We're all well aware that most celebrities go by a stage name. But you may or may not know that Emma Stone's real name is in fact Emily Jean Stone. And now she says she wants it back.
Emma told W Magazine that she was forced to change her moniker at the start of her career as the Screen Actors' Guild dictates that no two actors can be registered under the same name.
"My real name is Emily Stone, but when I started acting, that name was already taken by another actress, so I had to come up with a different one," she told the magazine.
In fact, she told Jimmy Kimmel during an appearance on his show that it's an America's Next Top Model contestant who had already bagsied her real name.
Age 16 she settled on the name of Riley, but soon decided that it didn't feel right.
"I landed a guest spot on Malcolm in the Middle, and one day they were calling, ‘Riley! Riley! Riley! We need you on set, Riley!’ and I had no idea who they were talking to," she said. "At that moment, I realised that I just couldn’t be Riley."
So she chose Emma on the basis it was a close fit to her real name. She even dabbled with being Emma J. Stone as she's a big Michael J. Fox fan, but decided she couldn't pull it off.
Now the La La Land actress admits that she misses her real name, but that it's too late to change it now. "I would love to get her back," she said.
Perhaps she can track down the ANTM contestant and reach an agreement...
