Simon Cowell Launching Movie Partnership with Lego Movie Animation House

Simon Cowell is moving into family movies through his Syco Entertainment banner with Australia-based Animal Logic in a multi-project partnership.

The alliance is already developing several music-based animated and hybrid animation-live action films. Their  first hybrid animated music-based film is set for release in 2016.

Animal Logic handled the animation and visual effects for “The Lego Movie” and the “Happy Feet” films.

Syco Entertainment already has a first-look movie deal with Sony. It’s a joint venture with Sony Music covering music, movies and TV including the reality TV formats “Got Talent” and “The X Factor.”

Syco produced the 3D concert movie “One Direction: This Is Us,” released last year through Sony with worldwide grosses topping $68 million.

The partnership will be headed by Animal Logic’s Zareh Nalbandian and Jason Lust and by Syco Entertainment’s Adam Milano.

“It is a dream come true to have this opportunity of working with Animal Logic,” Cowell said in a statement. “I think their work is pure genius and I really feel excited about the films we are going to be making together.”
