Sean Kingston's hit single titled, "Beautiful Girls," plays regularly on MTV — except for two lines that were edited out.
The lyrics go: "You're way too beautiful girl, that's why it'll never work. You'll have me suicidal, suicidal, when you say it's over."
MTV and some radio stations have chosen to omit the line that references suicide. But Kingston's song is not exactly dark and foreboding — it is an upbeat, reggae- and soul-inspired tune, that is easy to hum along to. One musican says it makes suicide appear as non-threatening as having a burger and a milkshake.
Even though teen suicide rates are up, one musican feels more attention should be paid to families and schools, rather than the pop charts, in order to prevent teen suicide.
